Intro
Through the forests to the south of Tesserete, in the centre of which is the medieval Torre di Redde, you reach Oratorium San Bernardo with wonderful views of the Ceresio. The route leads between old walls and modern buildings down to Lugano.
Description
Tesserete serves as a regional centre in the hilly Capriasca countryside covered with birch, beech and chestnut forests. Baroque church towers rise to the sky from many surrounding villages, and the buildings are close to each other.
The monastery of Santa Maria di Bigorio, just above Tesserete, is well worth a visit. It was founded in 1535 and was one of the first Capuchin monasteries in Switzerland. Since the 1960s, it has been an open centre for religious, spiritual and cultural encounters.
The hiking trail leads from the large bus stop through a playground and recreational park to the Arena Sportiva. Continue through a short stretch of forest to reach the village of Vaglio. Initially still on a gravel road, the trail soon branches off into a varied path. After a short climb, you soon get to the forest church of San Bernardo. The views of Lugano, the lake and San Salvatore are magnificent. From this perspective, the latter is reminiscent of Rio de Janeiro's Sugarloaf Mountain.
Now it's a steep descent to the destination in Comano. We recommend that you take public transport to Lugano from here. The route is no longer signposted.
