ViaSett
Overview
Intro
South of Lenzerheide lies the entrance to Parc Ela, Switzerland's largest nature park. Cross-flowery meadows to the chapel of St. Cassian and the mountain village of Lenz – once a transport cooperative on the Septimer route – and continue to the Carolingian church in Mistail near Tiefencastel.
Description
Lenzerheide was once just a transit location between Tiefencastel and Chur. The high valley is now a popular winter and summer resort for families, sports enthusiasts and tourists. The second stage of the Via Sett is the shortest of all and probably the easiest because there are few ascents and many descents. After the start and past the campsite, you soon arrive at Parc Ela, the largest nature park in Switzerland. You can enjoy a pleasant hike to Lantsch through lovely sections of forest and past attractive flowering pastures. In the distance are the mountain peaks of Piz Mitgel and Piz Toissa, and to the left the Parpaner Rothorn.
Past the Baselgia Viglia - one of the most attractive cemeteries in the area - and the old parish church of St. Maria, the descent soon goes on towards Alvaschein. You reach the small village first through the forest and further on along the road. It now takes around two hours to hike high above the Schin Gorge to Mistail. The church of St. Peter there is one of the oldest sacred buildings in Switzerland. It dates back to the 8th century and once belonged to a monastery complex, of which nothing remains today.
You reach the road via a path along the railway line, and this is the start of the last section to the destination in Tiefencastel. An independent municipality until the end of 2014, it now belongs to Albula/Alvra, along with the towns of Alvaneu, Alvaschein, Brienz, Mon, Stierva and Surava.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
