Travelling by public transport with a disability
Switzerland has a first-class public transport network that is easily accessible for people with disabilities too. No matter whether they’re in a wheelchair, find it difficult to walk, or have a visual or hearing impairment – the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) and other transport companies offer a wide range of support services for a pleasant and self-sufficient trip. In order to reliably plan your barrier-free travel, we recommend using the online timetables or corresponding apps.
SBB Contact Centre Handicap
The SBB Contact Centre Handicap provides information on the accessibility of stations and trains, gives tips on how to select suitable connections, and organises help with boarding and disembarking at larger stations. Book the assistance you need at least one hour before boarding and disembarking. Two hours are required if you need the shuttle service, or 24 hours for international travel. Exceptions can be found on the overview map for persons with reduced mobility.
SBB station assistance
This service offers mobility assistance at larger stations. It will support you when changing trains and navigating through the station, for a safe and stress-free trip.
PostBus
Many PostBus services come equipped with low-floor entrances or lifts, making it easier to board with a wheelchair or walking aid. Passengers with reduced mobility can also request assistance and benefit from practical services for a hassle-free journey.
Compagna travel companionCompagna accompanies people who are not willing or able to travel independently on public transport. So you can reach your destination feeling both relaxed and safe.
Many other transport companies such as shipping navigation companies or cable cars also offer barrier-free services. Detailed information on this can be found on their respective webpages.
