Intro
One handshake from the local host, Bruno Brawand, and you’ll get a sense of Alpine warmth. Regarded as one of the most authentic mountain restaurants in the Bernese Oberland, the historic wooden building lies between Grindelwald and First.
Information
Description
Ambience:
Whether inside the subtly refurbished restaurant or outside on the big sun terrace, you want to stay just that little bit longer. With its nine simple bedrooms with contemporary flair, which sleep between 2 to 6, guests get to enjoy the romantic feeling which comes when the last restaurant visitors have left, and suddenly there is nothing else than silence. The mountains have never been closer and food has never tasted better. Plus, up here both sunrise and sunset are breathtaking natural displays.
Location:
Located at an altitude of 1,600 metres at the Grindelwald-First middle station, with wonderful views of the Eiger and the surrounding four-thousand-metre peaks.
Cuisine:
Simple and regional food is prepared to exceptionally high standards: Emmental mozzarella on basil pesto with marinated cherry tomatoes, Bernese lentil stew with crispy sausage, a choice of Rösti and dried meat delicacies, steak tartare with a salad and toast, porcini mushroom risotto, homemade spinach and ricotta ravioli. Also very tasty, the Thai red curry with chicken, Asian vegetables and Jasmine rice. For children, there are Vienna sausages or chicken nuggets with chips, pasta with tomato sauce or risotto with chicken breast fillets. The wine menu is a smart selection of big names and less known wines at a reasonable price.
