Description
Glovelier was a former political municipality in the Delsberg district. In 2013, it merged with Bassecourt, Courfaivre, Soulce and Underverlier to form the new municipality of Haute-Sorne. The village is located at the western end of the Delsberg valley, at the intersection of the old transport routes from Pruntrut to Biel and Delsberg to La Chaux-de-Fonds.
The hiking trail climbs up to the Combe Tabeillon Nature Reserve via a gravel road. Lush green vegetation lines the route along the Tabeillon stream. After around an hour, you arrive at the little Combe Tabeillon train station.
It takes another hour to Étang de Bollement. This pond, also called Lac Tabeillon, is located at an altitude of 771 metres in the heart of the magnificent Freiberg forest landscape with its remarkable biodiversity. It is worth taking a break here.
Continuing on a gravel road, you soon reach La Combe. Passing the next pond, you arrive at Le Pré-Petitjean and then Montfaucon. The latter is a traditional village built on a mountain ridge. An attractive path leads on to Le Bémont, neighbouring village to Saignelégier. The hike ends there, with the final part being covered on the main road. The capital of the Jurassic Freiberg belonged to France from 1793 to 1815, until the Congress of Vienna assigned the town to the canton of Bern. With the re-establishment of the canton of Jura in 1979, the municipality became the capital of the new canton.
