Intro

The border with Austria runs along the mountain peaks between Schesaplana and Sulzfluh. Directly below, the high-level hike leads across steep alpine pastures on the southern slope. The far-reaching views over the Prättigau and the mighty, bare limestone cliffs attract climbing enthusiasts from all over the world.

Description

The Schesaplana hut lies below the impressive bastion of the Schesaplana's southern flank. At an altitude of 1,908 metres, the panoramic views over the Prättigau are spectacular. With an altitude of 2,964 metres, the Schesaplana is the highest mountain in the Rätikon. The border between the Austrian province of Vorarlberg and the Swiss canton of Graubünden runs across its summit.

The hike begins on a narrow path that leads uphill over steeply sloping alpine pastures. An increasing number of scattered boulders and impressive screes appear to the left. The increasingly rare black Alpine salamander can be seen here during the summer months. Also in summer, you may encounter livestock guard dogs along some sections. In order to be able to pass them safely, it is important to keep calm and observe the signs with tips on how to behave.

After "Bi da Seeli", the trail leads through the lush meadows of the Hochbühel wetland. At the Früggli pass, it's worth looking back at the Schesaplana and the peaks behind it, but the views ahead to the Kirchlispitzen and the Drusenfluh are also magnificent.

A quarter of an hour later, you are at the Austrian border, having reached the highest point of the route at an altitude of 2,239 metres. Here you have a magnificent view of Lünersee to the north. The lake is one of the largest in the Austrian province of Vorarlberg, at an altitude of 2,000 metres.

Next up is a steep descent beneath the rock faces and along the scree slopes of the Kirchlispitzen. The scenic path continues below the imposing Drusenfluh with the well-known Dri Türm. The region is known for its spectacular climbing routes. With its excellent grip, the rock of the Dolomite-like mountains provides favourable conditions, including for children. This is perhaps why you will find one of the highest sandboxes at the Carschina Hut. The demanding route ends with fantastic panoramic views at an inhospitable 2,236 metres above sea level and directly below the Sulzfluh.

An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
