In the wild Mühlental north of Schaffhausen's old town, a dynamic industry with global reach emerged around 200 years ago. Over the past 20 years, part of the historic industrial buildings, the Stahlgiesserei, has been transformed into a diverse residential, commercial and service district - a strong example of modern urban development.
