Beschrijving
The 29th section is the last of the Alpine Panorama Route, which starts in Rorschach. It is over 500 km long and covers a total of 36,000 altitude meters.
This section starts at the foot of the Jura Mountains, surrounded by nature, with fields on one side and the river on the other. La Versoix is a river located on the border with France. It is 27 km long and accompanies you until shortly before you reach the community of the same name, where it flows into Lake Geneva. Along the way, you cross beautiful forest sections and pass charming and secluded spots on the banks of the river.
The scenery changes after you leave Versoix and the countryside gives way to towns and villages. The communities of Genthod and Bellevue are located on the flight path approaching Geneva airport. Continue along the railway tracks until you reach the next residential area near Chambésy. The views from here across Lake Geneva and all the way to the Savoy Alps are amazing.
Later you walk past the UN building, which was established in the 1930s. This is where the second headquarters of the United Nations are located. About 30,000 delegates from around the world are received here every year. Behind the gates you are on international territory. Unfortunately, the botanical garden below the palace is barely visible. And now you are in the Sécheron district on Lake Geneva.
The beautiful park overlooking the 140 m high water jet of the Jet d’eau fountain and the promenades along Geneva’s lakeshore are delightful to stroll and unwind before you reach the Geneva train station about 30 minutes later, where the Alpine Panorama Route ends.
Geneva is Switzerland’s second largest city and because of its international orientation, it is considered to be the smallest metropolis in the world.
