Inleiding
In Bellelay, de toegang tot de Freiberge (Franches-Montagnes), gaan geschiedenis en cultuur samen. De plaats is bekend om zijn paardenfokkerijen en barokke kerk en als wieg van de Tête de Moine AOP, de pittige kaas die in rozetten wordt afgeschaafd. Via een weg die tussen stapelmuurtjes en oude waterputten doorloopt gaat de route verder naar Tramelan.
Beschrijving
Sornetan is about a hundred metres above the Sorne valley floor. Well-maintained farmhouses from the 18th and 19th centuries draw your attention here. The hike begins near the little 300-year-old church and proceeds westwards.
After a short, flat section across a cattle pasture, the trail leads into the forest. The ascent now begins on the northern hillside of the Moron through a dense forest. You cross the steep slope on a surfaced path. At the top, you find yourself on wide Jura pastures with grazing horses. Beyond the village of Moron, the path runs downwards once more onto the plain.
Just before Bellelay, you turn left onto the plains to the south. The town is famous for its impressive abbey, founded in 1136 and secularised in 1797. The property is now used as a psychiatric hospital. The monks of the abbey developed Tête de Moine cheese in the 12th century, and its traditional production over a wood fire can be experienced in the on-site museum.
You reach the wetland at Rière la Rouge Eau through the plain. Long footbridges made of wooden planks run across lush meadows and past rare flora. You pass the La Rouge Eau source on the left before arriving at the bus stop. Carts from Roman times have left impressive tracks in this area.
Shortly after this, the trail leads between the hills of Moron and Montbautier, along an attractive tree-lined road and then to the right. A route with bends takes you up the eastern slope through the forest. There are steep cliffs either side of the trail, which culminates in an incredible view over the Vallée de Tavannes. You come across blooming daffodils and ancient trees as well as attractive, slightly crumbling drystone walls on the way to the large farm on Montbautier.
Straight trails lead past striking trees dotted here and there and along impressive tree-lined roads. The road takes you past the Haut de Bémont farm. It is now a leisurely hike over the crest of the hill to Le Chalet. Coniferous trees, a whole variety of flowers and the view of the Chasseral delight the senses. You reach the highest point of the hike at 1,169 metres and this is followed by the descent to Tramelan.
Located on the southern hillside, Tramelan was closely associated with watchmaking up to the 1970s. The home workshops, the temple church windows and the church of St. Michel invite you to explore.

Win op voorhand inlichtingen in bij de plaatselijke informatiedienst over de toestand van het traject en de weersomstandigheden. Afhankelijk van het seizoen en de weersomstandigheden kan de route gesloten of onderbroken zijn.
