Isel-loipe
Overzicht
Inleiding
The cross-country ski trail connects the Isel Reservoir, snow-covered mountain pine forests and an impressive mountain panorama. The view of the Altein Waterfall and the Welschtobel valley, crowned at its end by the Arosa Rothorn, is a highlight.
Beschrijving
The Isel trail starts a bit below the village and first leads along the southern bank of the artificial lake. The three creeks Furggabach, Furggaalpbach and the Plessur flow into the lake, which is surrounded by forest. The Plessur, in which trout can be found, also leaves the lake at the other end. The trail loops through the Iselwald forest, where mainly mountain pines can be found. The area is surrounded by the Arosa Dolomites, which originally evolved from a subtropical beach.
As you make your way towards the Welschtobelbach stream, you can catch a glimpse of the Altein Waterfall, with its total height of 73 m. The Welschtobel valley is a product of erosion, which happened about 30 million years ago at the same time as the Alps were formed. Shortly after this, the stream has to be crossed. It flows into wide, branching river system, which you follow to the finish line.
At the Isel Arosa, one can already start cross-country skiing in November as part of the «Novemberhoch». This trail is also recommended when there is snowfall.
