Violin Hanging on the Wall
The violin in the picture by Picasso is barely recognisable as such but appears broken down into its components. Totally in keeping with the Cubism style that Picasso developed together with Georges Braque, the instrument is shown from different perspectives at the same time. The free use of shapes and colours now becomes more important than the realistic portrayal of a motif and is characteristic of 20th century art.
