Inleiding
On this trail, snowshoe hikers have three attractive companions by their side: The alpine scenery of the Lauterbrunnen valley with the world-famous mountain trio of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau can be seen for the entire round trip. At Chänelegg there is a beautiful moorland area.
Beschrijving
As if looking out from a balcony, the view stretches out over the land covered in deep snow. The Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau peaks tower up vertically above you. Mürren sits grandly above the rugged Lauterbrunnen valley. The cosy mountain village’s tourism history is shaped mainly by British visitors: Tour operator and ski fan Henry Lunn brought his well-to-do countrymen to the area in the 1920s. His son Arnold ensured that the first skiing world championships took place here in 1931. At the end of the 1960s, yet another Brit came along: Bond, James Bond. Mürren’s popularity grew even more thanks to the film being shot on Schilthorn.
Almost as spectacular as the Bond scenes on the mountain is the alpine scenery on the Chänelegg Trail. It begins at the BLM station and goes towards the centre of the village. Before the sports centre, the path forks to the right. Travelling through the Äegerte Quarter and over the lower panoramic trail, you will reach the Allmendhubel funicular railway line. Here, it is worth looking back towards the mountain trio and Mürren. There is then a short, steep climb to the upper panoramic path. Going slightly uphill, you then follow the trail to the Allmiboden region. After crossing the ski slope, you then follow the edge of the forest to Chänelegg.
At Chänelegg there is a beautiful moorland area that extends over around 4.4 hectares. And not only that – the view over no less than eight north faces of the Bernese Alps and the mountain trio turns the tour into an unforgettable experience. The route then goes back through Mittelberg – the perfect place for a photo with the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau mountains – and then under the snow-capped trees to Mürren.
De sleutel voor een prettige wandeltocht is onder andere een zorgvuldige planning. Win op voorhand inlichtingen in bij de plaatselijke informatiedienst over de toestand van het traject en de weersomstandigheden. Afhankelijk van het seizoen en de weersomstandigheden kan de route gesloten of onderbroken zijn.
