Diese Kabinett-Ausstellung widmet sich dem Werk des St.Galler Künstlers Arthur Beyer (1904–1982), der zeitlebens als Maler und Grafiker tätig war. In den 1960er- und 1970er-Jahren entwickelte er eine eigenständige Bildsprache, in der er alltägliche Motive wie Bahnhöfe und Brücken, Strassenzüge und Häuserfronten einer formalen Vereinfachung unterzog. Seine flächigen Gemälde von gebauten Landschaften erscheinen anonymisiert und typisiert, entfalten jedoch zugleich eine bemerkenswerte analytische Kraft. In seiner Malerei nimmt Beyer postmoderne Stadtlandschaften vorweg, in denen das Gebaute selbst zur Hauptfigur und zugleich zum Symbol für die Umwelt wird.
