Behind the Scenes of Claude Barras's Film
The “Sauvages” exhibition invites visitors of all ages to extend the magic of the film by delving into the intimate world of its creation. Richly illustrated with original materials—drawings, travel journals, sets, and figurines—created by Claude Barras and his team, the exhibition is organized into three key sections. The first section highlights the region’s major ecological and cultural challenges: deforestation, palm oil monoculture, and the disappearance of indigenous traditions. In particular, it explores the struggle of the Penan people, brought to light by Swiss environmental activist Bruno Manser, who went missing in 2000 in the jungles of Sarawak on the island of Borneo. The second section offers a behind-the-scenes look at the film’s origins and production stages: from writing the screenplay to developing the characters, and including the creation of the sets, visitors are invited to step into the film’s workshop and discover the extraordinary attention to detail involved in this creative process. Finally, the last section immerses visitors in the heart of the film shoot. Intimate photographs and previously unseen testimonials reveal the unique atmosphere on set and pay tribute to the passionate dedication of the entire film crew.Supported by an exhibition design that is both original and sustainable, the exhibition unveils the fascinating and magical world of *Sauvages*, a sensitive, human, and socially conscious stop-motion film.
