Gastlosen Tour
概覽
簡介
The Gastlosen circular route south of Jaun offers a variety of geology and flora seldom found by walkers in the Alpine foothills. There is a magnificent view of the Bernese Alps, with the peaks of the 13,000 foot Wallis Alps in the background.
Description
A variety of vegetation, geology, etc. is a key feature of the mountain hiking trail, which at altitudes of between 1,500 and 1,900 m leads to the Gastlosen mountain chain situated to the south of the village of Jaun. Walkers are aware of this variety from the very start of the hike.
With the appearance of gentle Alpine meadows and clearings on the way to Soldatenhaus, the impressive, craggy limestone mountains - whose vertical rock faces reach a height of nearly 300 meters in places - come ever closer. At this point, hikers pass through the Stillwasserwald with its extremely varied plant life.
After the stony transition from the north to the south face at Wolfsort – at 1,921 m the highest point in the hike – lush green Alpine meadows are crossed once again before descending, after the Alp Grat, to the dense Mattenwald, which is equally rich in plant life, and returning to the starting point. The walk can also be completed in the opposite direction.
