A Donkey in Blackpool
The work of Canadian Jeff Wall has breathed new life into the medium. Wall’s works always involve carefully staged compositions, even though at first glance some of his motifs might appear to be everyday shots taken at random. The photographs, some of which are produced with a team of several members, contain references to other works from the fine art canon and to literature. A Donkey in Blackpool makes direct reference to the famous painting entitled “Whistlejacket” (1762) by British artist George Stubbs.
