Femme (Woman (“Demoiselles d’Avignon” period))
After his lyrical "Rose Period", Picasso became committed to a radical, "anti-beauty" concept of art, under the influence of Cézanne and Henri Rousseau among others, and of impressions of African tribal art. In "Femme", we see a prostitute offering herself to us with arms raised; on her head is the sailor's cap of one of her suitors.
