Intro

The expansive Elfenau Park is one of the jewels of the City of Bern. It offers plenty of activities to delight young and old alike: whether that’s strolling through the historic park, swimming in the Aare river, watching the kingfishers by the river’s edge, attending a concert in the orangery or simply enjoying an afternoon in the park’s own café.

Elfenau Park is one of the most popular places for locals to go and relax. The Elfenau area was first mentioned in records in 1285, and at that time was still Klostergut Brunnadern.

A blend of the old and new bestows a pronounced elegance to the park: the historic buildings of the former estate, the English landscape garden, the ProSpecieRara foundation garden and a beautiful new playground mean you certainly won’t be bored here.

From a historical gardens perspective, Elfenau Park ranks as one of the most important English landscape gardens in Switzerland dating from the early 19th century. It is therefore also listed on the Swiss Inventory of Cultural Property as an asset of national significance.
