Bicubic – Le Misanthrope – Molière

The Misanthrope - Molière

Theatre

Production by Théâtre de Osses – Fribourg Dramatic Centre

Directed by Anne Schwaller

Alceste loves Célimène, even though she embodies everything he rejects: he preaches absolute sincerity and disregards conventions; she finds pleasure in appearances and in the freedoms allowed by her recent widowhood. A whirlwind of excessive and fascinating characters surrounds the duo, feeding this critique of hypocrisy in Alexandrine verse, as moving as it is explosive.

This reinterpretation of Molière's classic, by Anne Schwaller and the Théâtre des Osses, captivates with its transparent scenography, bold costumes, and critically acclaimed performances. It offers a comical and astute portrait of human relationships and power games, both today and 400 years ago.
