Désalpe in Charmey

Intro
"Désalpe" is the best-known of all traditional mountain festivities.
The descent of the herds into the valley after more than four months in the pastures is known as the désalpe. A highlight of Charmey, the désalpe festival has gained an international reputation over the years. Those who appreciate traditions and authenticity will find an unmissable event every last Saturday of September. Adorned with colourful bouquets, the cows return to the valley accompanied by the joyful ringing of bells. This Rindyà (a dialect meaning "descent from the pastures") reflects the traditions of the mountain dwellers and ensures their preservation.
