Fortepiano Festival «Flügelschläge»
Overview
Intro
Frédéric Chopin, revolutionary and elegant
Frédéric Chopin captivates with his musical imagination and elegance. His works are full of sparkling vitality and poetic melancholy—profoundly soulful and imbued with consummate grace. They transport the listener to distant places.
His life was a unique fusion of life and art. After leaving his native Poland in 1831, Chopin lived in Paris as a successful composer and highly paid piano teacher until his death in 1849. Chopin rarely gave public concerts and shunned large audiences. He preferred to play in the salon of the piano maker and friend Camille Pleyel.
From November 5–19, 2026, the Zurich Fortepiano Festival “Flügelschläge” will be dedicated to the great composer and his artistic circle: Two fortepiano recitals, four short recitals in the “Café-Salon Chopin,” and a chamber music finale will showcase Chopin’s oeuvre and musical era. The concert introduction to the forgotten composer and contemporary Delphine von Schauroth, the film evening, and the exhibition in the choir room of the Bühlkirche will also trace Chopin’s eventful life.
Star pianist Abdel Rahman El Bacha, fortepiano specialists Costantino Mastroprimiano, Maria Gabryś-Heyke, Pau Fernández Benlloch, and Hanna Horobets, the Elsewhere ensemble, and music historian Dr. Ingrid Bodsch—together with Els Biesemans—will guide you through Frédéric Chopin’s musical cosmos.
