Hanging of the Perch
Overview
Intro
In Estavayer-le-Lac, it is a tradition, you don't burn the winter man to make the cold season go away: you burn the perch !
The perch, a famous fish from Lake Neuchâtel, has been the emblem of the Estavayer-le-Lac Carnival for more than 30 years. A few days before the festivities begin, the perch is hung after a torchlight walk. It will go up in smoke at the end of the demonstration but for now, it hangs, people celebrate it and prepare for the carnival.
