Saas-Fee/Saastal: Switzerland’s first winter via ferrata

The Saastal valley will have a new attraction this coming winter season. A winter via ferrata is a new attraction on the outskirts of Saas-Grund. The total ascent of around 150 metres is categorised as K3 on the difficulty scale, with short stretches classified as K4. The tour ends with a spectacular abseil (approx. 40 metres) and takes about two hours. You must be accompanied by a mountain guide and have the appropriate equipment.

New slope for ski tours on the Pizol

Good news for fans of ski touring: there’s a new slope for ski tours on the Pizol. From winter 2020/21, ski tourers will have the perfect place to train: their own ascent route, covering a distance of 3.2 kilometres. The route starts at Pardiel, which is easy to reach by cable car from Bad Ragaz. From there, an ascent of just 600 metres stands between the tour skiers and their goal: the Laufböden, situated 2,226 metres above sea level. They are rewarded for their efforts with unique views over the Rhine Valley, extending as far as Lake Constance in the distance.

Snowpark in the home of a star

The ski region where freestyle star Mathilde Gremaud learned her first tricks has opened a new snow park. The park has boxes and rails and even an area with kickers. This is the ideal environment for freestylers to perfect their skills. 2018 Olympic medallist Mathilde Gremaud was once among the newbies at La Berra.

Ski all-inclusive-package

In Sörenberg, winter sports enthusiasts can now indulge themselves with an all-inclusive package. The carefree package includes a reserved parking space, an all-day ski ticket, a drink and three-course lunch in the cosy dining room of the Schwarzenegg ski hut. It costs CHF 115 per person.

V-cableway project completed, Grindelwald

The V-Cableway will open in its entirety for the first time in December 2020. The new Eiger Express slashes the journey time from Grindelwald to the Eiger Glacier to just 15 minutes. Visitors can now also get to the Jungfraujoch much more quickly. The project, comprising two state-of-the-art v-cableway gondolas with increased capacities, involved an investment of CHF 470 million. Public transport links were also improved, and the valley station has been upgraded to create a modern terminal with shops and restaurants.

The very first ski drive-in at the Grüsch Danusa ski area

The Grüsch–Danusa cableway is expanding its gastronomic concept to include Switzerland’s very first ski drive-in. Chips, hamburgers, chicken nuggets, salads, Bircher muesli and drinks are served in environmentally friendly bags through a window at the Schwänzelegg mountain inn, 1,800 metres above sea level. Payment is made electronically wherever possible. Skiers can then enjoy their food and refreshments on the spacious benches outdoors. Sustainability is also ensured with the disposable utensils, which are biodegradable.
