Intro

Chaplin's World on Lake Geneva is more than a museum: It is Charlie Chaplin's last home. He lived here in the Canton of Vaud for 25 years. Today you walk through his living quarters, stand on his film sets and meet him again as a wax figure.

Chaplin's World at a glance

The museum in Corsier-sur-Vevey opened in 2016 in the Manoir de Ban, the country estate where Charlie Chaplin lived with his wife Oona and 8 children from 1953 until his death in 1977. On the four-hectare estate above Lake Geneva, his living quarters, a film studio and over 30 wax figures combine to create a portrait of artist and man.

What to experience

Explore the Manoir (45-60 minutes)

In the Manoir, the mansion, you will walk through the original rooms of the Chaplin family. Personal items, photos and film footage make it possible to experience the person behind the screen figure. Wax figures are waiting in every room – even Albert Einstein is there and makes faces in the bathroom.

  • Good to know: You can touch most of the furniture and even sit down.
  • Tip: In the last room, Chaplin's private films with his children are shown.

Roaming the film studios (45–60 minutes)

In the studio building, you'll walk through recreated sets from Chaplin's films. You sit down on the barber's chair from "The Great Dictator", stand on the street from "The Kid" and stand next to wax figures of Sophia Loren or Buster Keaton. Old film clips and original costumes bring the silent film era to life.

  • Good to know: In each set, the matching original film is played.
  • Tip: Stand in the tilting hut from "Gold Rush" and make it falter.

Walking in the park

In the four-hectare landscaped park around the manor house, you can enjoy the view of Lake Geneva and the Alps. You follow the same paths that Chaplin used to walk every day. Old trees and wide meadows make the park a quiet counterpoint to the bustling Vevey down by the lake.

  • Good to know: Picnicking is only allowed at the edge of the forest at the car park, not in the park.
  • Tip: After the tour, you can stop at the café "The Tramp" with a view of the lake.
