Overview
Intro
Against the stunning backdrop of the Klöntal Valley, a small alpine reception will take place on September 22: The stately Unterlängenegg alp will then head back home.
The alpine pastures in the Klöntal report a mixed summer season: while the heat and drought posed major challenges in some areas, herders in other parts of the valley—and further back in the valley—had a less turbulent time. The late rains have brought some relief everywhere.
Set against the impressive backdrop of the Klöntal, the Alpine Homecoming celebration will take place on September 22, after which the stately Unterlängenegg alp will make its way home. The sound of bells will fill the valley, and the small festival grounds are located near the Hotel Rhodannenberg. Information about the alp will be available on site, and food and drinks will be provided.
The Unterlängenegg alp will arrive at the Hotel Rhodannenberg at approximately 9:30 a.m. It’s worth arriving early. The alp has a rough schedule.
Getting There: Travel by public transit and bicycle is encouraged and recommended.
The dairymaid will walk from the Klöntal valley via Riedern to Glarus.
Visitors are encouraged to stay in the Klöntal; a hike around Lake Klöntal is highly recommended, and the Hotel Rhodannenberg offers a delicious lunch menu for hungry walkers and hikers. A subsequent trip to the higher-altitude Restaurant Schwammhöhe is also recommended.
