Die chinesische Künstlerin Cao Fei (* 1978, Guangzhou) zählt zu den prägenden Stimmen ihrer Generation. Für ihre erste Einzelausstellung in der Schweiz verwandelt sie das Kunstmuseum Basel | Gegenwart in ein immersives Gesamtkunstwerk in Form einer Stadt, in der eindrucksvolle Installationen und Videowelten aus ihren letzten zwanzig Schaffensjahren verschmelzen.
