The end of the night meets the end of time: at the Lunaire music cellar, Messiaen's Quatuor pour la fin du Temps resounds, composed in a prisoner-of-war camp — resistance and solace to this day.
Night’s end meets the end of time: our late-night concert frames one work alone, Olivier Messiaen’s Quatuor pour la fin du Temps. Vibrant birdsong rises above the tragic circumstances of this work’s creation in a prisoner-of-war camp. Set against an apocalyptic backdrop, Messiaen offers musical resistance, translating the mystical visions of the Book of Revelation into musical form. He offers comfort to his fellow human beings – then as now, and until the end of time.
