The Heidi Village at a glance
The Heidi Village in Maienfeld is the setting for the world-famous Heidi story by Johanna Spyri. True-to-the-original furnishings and old crafts give an insight into the life of the popular novel character. Together with an alpine hut, adventure trail and petting zoo, they make the village a great destination for families and Heidi fans.
What you can experience
Discover Heidi's Home (60-90 minutes)
In the village shop you first get a ticket for your Heidi tour. Look at what school was like back then, how Heidi lived and how she spent the summer on the alp. You will discover Heidi's bed in the hay, the goat barn and Clara's wheelchair. Films, audio guides and readings let you dive even deeper into Heidi's world.
- Good to know: Tour unsuitable for strollers, leave at the entrance.
- Tip: Pick up a Heidi special postmark at the village shop, the smallest Swiss post office.
Hike to Heidialp (45–90 minutes)
Even more Heidi awaits you on the adventure trail: It leads in two stages from Maienfeld to the Heidi village and up to the legendary Heidialp. Along the way, twelve stations tell the story of Heidi, Geissenpeter, the Alpöhi and Clara. The trail is stroller-friendly, offers shaded spots and a barbecue area.
- Good to know: The best time to visit is in early summer, when the alpine meadows are in bloom.
- Tip: At sunset you can experience the alpenglow like in the novel.
