Burgfeldenpark-Parc-des-Carrières-Weg
Overview
Intro
Green spaces, shady trees and orchards – the hike begins on the outskirts of Basel and leads through the green oases of the border region. A relaxing excursion into verdant surroundings, past colourful gardens and flower meadows.
Description
This cross-border, obstacle-free route starts at Burgfelderhof and first leads to France, into the Parc des Carrières. The area, characterised by fields, allotment gardens and gravel pits, used to be difficult for residents to access. With the redesign as a green gateway between Switzerland and Alsace, the park has become a recreation and meeting zone. Mostly flat, the path leads in a large loop through the idyllic landscape and nature park.
Head back to Basel via the border crossing. On the grounds of the REHAB, the route leads through the beautifully designed therapy animal garden. In addition to horses, goats and chickens, you can also discover turtles and birds here. Numerous seating areas invite you to rest and linger. Shortly afterwards, you cross the Milchsuppe allotment area on the north-western city boundary of Basel. The green area is marked by a slope up to six metres high, a remnant of the original Rhine gravel terrace. On the panoramic trail, the views extend over meadows, orchards and colourful community gardens.
Passing through the sweeping, beautifully kept garden area of the University Psychiatric Clinics, you return to the starting point.
