Chüematte Trail
Overview
Intro
A snowshoe trek through unspoilt nature beckons below the Niederhorn, between gnarled Swiss stone pines, open meadows and sunny slopes. The backdrop with views over Lake Thun and the peaks of the Bernese Oberland will amaze you.
Description
On the Chüematte Trail, you enter the mountain scenery of the Bernese Oberland with Lake Thun at your feet and the mighty triad of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau in plain sight. From the Vorsass middle station of the Niederhorn cable car, the snowshoe trail first leads along the winter hiking trail that runs parallel to the ski slope. After a few minutes, you say goodbye to the hustle and bustle of the ski area and enter a different world.
In addition to the seemingly endless mountain panorama, you can enjoy the silence of the sparse mountain pine forest. The view extends over Lake Thun from the peaks of the Bernese Alps with Eiger, Mönch, Jungfrau, Wetterhorn and Schreckhorn to the Valais. Wildlife tracks can be discovered again and again in the snow-covered landscape. The trail leads along the Beatenberg - Habkern forest reserve, which, at 4,500 hectares, is Switzerland's second largest forest reserve. As a mosaic of forest, open meadows and moorland, the area provides a valuable habitat for rare animal and plant species. Endangered species such as capercaillie or three-toed woodpecker can retreat here.
At Unterburgfeld, the trail leaves the forest and follows the markings gently up and down towards Alp Chüematte. When the weather is nice, the Chüematte Beizli invites you to linger with regional delicacies. The mountain scenery is worth enjoying once more here before the descent across meadows and alpine pastures. On clear days, the tour ends in Waldegg with a magnificent sunset.
