Guggeli-Schneeschuhtrail
Overview
Intro
This circular route is especially popular with beginners and snowshoe hiking enthusiasts. Discover the sunny side of Muotathal in the southern part of the village and, if you like, make a detour to a spiritual site.
Description
The route starts by the schoolhouse in “Wil”, the oldest and most beautiful part of Muotathal village. It passes the parish church and ossuary on a slight incline, with a constant view of the Chileflue, the imposing rock face that dominates the north side of the valley.
Open terrain, short forest sections and farmhouses are the main features of the hike. There's also a farm at the highest point on the route, including a self-service pub. With a fine view of the long-standing and elongated village of Muotathal and the Muota river, this is the ideal place to enjoy some peace and quiet.
On the way back you'll see St. Joseph's, the oldest active Franciscan convent in Europe. Regarded as a special spiritual site, it offers another chance to pause and listen to the sounds of nature before you arrive back at the starting point and return to everyday life.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
