Intro

High above Lake Walen, the Hasebode Trail describes a curve around the mountain village of Amden with the Glarus Alps, Lake Walen and the Linth Plain forming the backdrop, in addition to the picture-perfect panoramic views at the Durschlegi viewpoint. The meadows full of flowers and butterflies add their own cheerful touch.

Description

First, the Mattstock chairlift takes the guests from Amden up to the Niederschlag mountain station located at 1290 m. After a coffee break (optional, of course), the hikers start out in western direction. A few minutes later a narrow, well-constructed trail leading to Oberfurggle branches off from the wide gravel path. The trail is bordered by colourful shrubs on both sides. Oberfurggle at 1498 m is the highest point of the tour. Right before the end, a steep section of the trail takes you to the top. Between the majestic Walenstein, an offshoot of Mt. Mattstock, and a tree-covered elevation, the path descends through the pleasantly shady forest down to Alp Hasebode.

About 400 m elevation below Oberfurggle, a forest path leads in the direction of Durschlegi, where a magnificent panorama opens up across Lake Walen, the Glarus Alps, the Linth Plain, and the village of Amden. The panoramic views from the ledge are phenomenal: Leistchamm, Mürtschenstock, Tödi and Glärnisch are the most prominent peaks you can see from here. Below Durschlegi, a 700 m rock wall drops off almost vertically to Lake Walen. A powerful landslide occurred here in 1974, which damaged the only access road to Amden. Because the landslide had been expected for years, the Swiss Army had previously constructed a small road to the Toggenburg Valley as an alternative. Yet, the village still had to be serviced by helicopter for a few days.

In addition to the views, Durschlegi offers another attraction. The meadows in this area are no longer used for agricultural purposes, but in the summer a multitude of butterflies are dancing amid the countless flowers, which even include orchids. From Durschlegi, it is a leisurely walk of about 30 minutes on a small road to get to the centre of Amden where the tour ends.

An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
