Monti Motti Bike
Overview
Intro
Where technique, adrenaline and scenery meet: The ascent begins in Gordola on surfaced road to Monti Motti, offering stunning views over Lake Maggiore along the way. The thrilling single trail then winds through the forest while challenging your balance and control.
Description
First of all, you need endurance: Before the single-trail descent begins, you have to tackle around 14 kilometres and 800 metres of elevation on surfaced road. You mainly cycle through forest, meaning that you should at least sweat a little less. Lake Maggiore appears now and then between the trees. If you like, you can take a break in Ditto, with its stone houses. There’s a beautiful view from the church. There are still around four kilometres until the highest point – or perhaps a little further if you plan on taking the rewarding detour to Monti di Motti. Here, the “grotto” (restaurant), which has a sun terrace, or the small lake invite you to take a break. The signposted viewpoint just a little further on, which offers views across Lake Maggiore, is definitely worth a detour.
The descent on the technical single trail now begins: The first flowing sections are perfect for finding your rhythm and warming up. More challenging passages then follow, requiring precision and control – biking experience is a must here. This stretch has natural drops, stone steps, rock gardens and sculpted curves. It offers a number of possible lines and exciting challenges.
Just before the halfway mark, you can explore the picturesque mountain hamlet of Bazzadee. The partially abandoned centre consists of traditional stone houses and acts as a natural balcony over Lake Maggiore – the perfect spot for a break and photos!
Although the trail is shared with hikers, they don’t use it very often. Designed in an environmentally conscious and sustainable way, it maintains the authentic character of the old hiking trail but combines this with the modern MTB spirit: adrenaline, flow and riding fun at every curve.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
