Intro
This lovely circular route leads through the dense forests of Mornera. Along the way, some pretty views through the trees extend from the castles of Bellinzona to the Lago Maggiore.
Description
Mornera is surrounded by larches and firs and is situated on a natural terrace on a south-facing slope. From up here, a beautiful view of the Bellinzona region, the Magadino plain and the peaks of the Sottoceneri can be enjoyed. The starting point of the snowshoe tour is easily reached by cable car from Monte Carasso west of Bellinzona.
Upon arriving at the top station, you immediately enter a beautiful forest. After a short stretch, the frozen lake of Mornera, which is circumnavigated in a wide loop offers a magical backdrop. Further on in the dense forest, comfortable benches invite you to take a short break. From time to time, traces of rural civilisation can be discovered.
At some clearings, the view reaches over the castles of Bellinzona and the Magadino plain. The finish of the trail is back at the starting point, the top station of the Mornera cable car. Culinary specialities from Ticino can be sampled at the grotto there. With your stomach full, the cable car takes you back to Monte Carasso.
