Overview
Intro
Sledging fun for big and small: the rapid ride through the Jura winter landscape from the Wasserfallen cableway mountain station to Reigoldswil takes around half an hour. It leads through the forest, over meadows and even through a tunnel full of icicles.
Description
At the very back of the "Fünflibertal" valley, where streams tumble off ledges into the valley, the Wasserfallen cableway leads to the highest lookout point in the canton of Basel-Country (928 m above sea level). It was opened in 1956 and replaced by a modern system in 2006, which transports guests into the Jura mountains in comfort.
In good weather, the view across the ridge of the Passwang stretches to Germany and to the Vosges mountains in Alsace. In winter, Basel-Country's regional mountain is the starting point for snowshoe trekking, winter hiking and cross-country skiing in the Waldweid area. The region of Wasserfallen makes for a particularly charming one-day sledging trip: you can reach the starting point of the diverse sledge run, the mountain station, in just three quarters of an hour from Liestal by bus and panoramic lift.
The snow-covered forest and meadow paths lead down into the village of Reigoldswil, beginning in a wide arc through open plains and then through the forests of the precipitous Bärengraben and Schelmenloch. At the end it becomes more relaxed once again: through the meadow landscape and along the Hintere Frenke stream you return to the valley station of the Wasserfallen cableway.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
