Snowshoe tour of the Simplon
Overview
Intro
The wildly romantic Simplon is well worth exploring in winter. This circular hike offers varied views and is guaranteed snow thanks to its location 2,000 metres above sea level.
The snowshoe trail leads over the Simplon Pass to the “Weng” hill. While walking, you can enjoy a wonderful 360° view of the surrounding mountains. While the Fletschhorn dominates to start off with, after around 30 minutes hikers have a view to the north of the Aletsch region and the Bernese Alps. Thanks to its sunny location, the trail is accessible in the early part of the winter.
The hike is particularly lovely after fresh snowfall. Its high location and flat plains make the Simplon Pass a wonderful hiking area. In winter in particular, the pass landscape gives off an undiscovered, romantic feel. The hikers can then warm themselves up after a successful hike with a nice cup of tea at the Hospiz, Hotel Monte Leone and Hotel Simplonblick restaurants. You can easily reach the Simplon Pass by PostBus from Brig. Free parking spaces are also available on the pass.
