The salt mines of Bex in the Canton of Vaud are the oldest active salt mines in Switzerland. On the guided tours, visitors take the mine train deep into the mountain and sometimes explore the mines with only a lantern in their hands. What to experience
Lantern Tour (2 hours 15 minutes)
On the lantern tour, you immerse yourself in the world of the former miners with a lantern – no neon light, no noise, just the cool mine and the light of your lantern. On a 500-meter route, guides will show you the galleries, the museum and the salt production from a completely different perspective.
- Good to know: Bring warm clothes; the temperature in the mine is a constant 18 degrees.
- Tip: Group offers and private tours can be booked on request.
Mine tour (2 hours)
Take the mine train into the interior of the mountain, where tradition and the present meet. You will learn how salt is extracted from the rocks here to this day, learn surprising things about the mines or slide down a slide. - Good to know: Wear good shoes, because the ground in the tunnels is uneven and damp.
Mine visit and brasserie experience
The Mines & Brasserie combo combines two Vaud attractions into one long evening. After the mine tour, head to Brasserie La Mine, where four home-brewed beers await you to try before a multi-course dinner rounds out the day. The offer is limited to ten people per visit.
