Intro

Mammut will soon be 160 years old. What started out as a small ropemaker in Dintikon, Switzerland, in 1862 is now a leading mountain sports equipment supplier that stands for trailblazing innovation and safety.

Today’s world-renowned and successful Mammut Sports Group AG has its roots in a small family business. In Dintikon, in the heart of Switzerland, the young and talented ropemaker Kaspar Tanner founded his own ropemaking business in 1862. Mammut, the name that is used today, was introduced around 80 years later. Over the course of its 160-year company history, the Mammut Sports Group became an expert in ropes, climbing harnesses, sleeping bags, clothing, shoes and gear for mountain and outdoor sports. The small family business developed into a global company with around 800 employees, which operates in around 40 countries.

A responsible approach to the future
Since 2002, Mammut has been one of the first outdoor companies to commit to achieving more sustainability in the outdoor sector. With the aim of protecting the environment, Mammut has done everything for clean production processes with minimal emissions.
Sustainability starts at the production stage, but goes much further than this: to reinforce its commitment, Mammut – as a signatory to the UN Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action – also undertook to cut CO2 emissions by 30% by 2030. By 2050 at the latest, production should even be entirely emission-free (net zero). With this in mind, glacial retreat in particular has been brought back into focus. This gave the movement a name, which is emblematic of Mammut’s commitment to sustainability: Together for Glaciers. Under the hashtag #TogetherForGlaciers, impressions of disappearing glaciers can be shared among social networks. Doing so should raise awareness around this issue and motivate people to do things in a more environmentally friendly way.
