Intro
Just by Basel, at the start of the navigable Rhine, lies the charming little "Zähringer" town of Rheinfelden. The historic town centre with its typical wide market street and delightful side lanes is an inviting area in which to wander, explore and do some shopping.
Rheinfelden at a glance
At the highest point of the navigable Rhine lies Rheinfelden, the oldest Zähringer town in Switzerland. In 2016, the Aargau border town of Rheinfelden is pleased to receive the Wakker Prize. The medieval town center, the frescoed facades, archways and towers, and the ornate town hall with its Gothic staircase bear witness to Rheinfelden's rich past. The car-free old town with its wide market street, street cafés, restaurants and boutiques invites you to linger. In summer, you can plunge into the refreshing water at the lido directly on the Rhine. For non-swimmers: walk a few steps out to the old town and you will find yourself in the most beautiful hiking area of the Fricktal.
With three of only two salt production sites in Switzerland, the little town is also the "Salt City of Rheinfelden". After the discovery of the salt deposits, it gained international fame when the brine baths were opened. Today, Rheinfelden is a popular and widely known meeting place for health and wellness: with the spa center and wellness world sole uno and the brine pool of the Hotel Eden im Park - you are in good hands and can sit back, relax and be pampered. With the Reha Rheinfelden, the Schützen Clinic, the Salina Private Clinic and the Health Center, Rheinfelden is the health city of Switzerland.
Due to the excellent traffic situation, Rheinfelden is easily and quickly accessible by car, train or boat. This offers optimal conditions for seminars and conferences. After a demanding seminar day, you can relax on the Rheinfelden golf course with a view of the Feldschlösschen brewery.
For excursions & groups, Feldschlösschen Getränke AG will introduce you to the world of beer. The Roman city of Augusta Raurica in Augst, the oldest Roman colony on the Rhine, ShwissShrimps as the only shrimp farm in Europe and the Swiss salt works Riburg and Schweizerhalle are further attractive destinations in the Rheinfelden region. Combined with a guided tour of the town, offered by Tourismus Rheinfelden, or a boat trip on the Rhine, one experiences unforgettable company and club excursions.
Rheinfelden also offers a wide range of cultural activities. A well-known address is the jazz club Q4 Rheinfelden, which offers jazz at its best in the Schützenkeller. On May 1, the spring awakening with a market heralds the warm time of the year, and in summer you can enjoy films "OpenAir" on the grounds of the Feldschlösschen brewery. During the Christmas season, the "Advent Sparkle" enchants with its magic lights, concerts and attractions for young and old. Rheinfelden also hosts the traditional goods and Christmas market.
