Rheinfelden – a city built on salt
Overview
Intro
In Rheinfelden, everything revolves around this “white gold”. From the story of how salt was discovered to how it is used today – salt can be experienced in all its aspects. The city built on salt has so much to offer and is definitely worth a visit.
Rheinfelden is a spa resort and city of salt in one: at the Riburg salt works, visitors can marvel at the Saldomes and find out more about how salt is extracted. The underground salt deposits were discovered in 1848, and the salt works is one of three locations mining salt in Switzerland.
Salt is a prominent feature in the culinary offerings too – such as on the SaltGourmetTour, as part of which guests can enjoy an exquisite 3-course salt menu on the terrace of the Park Hotel am Rhein and in the mindfulness garden in the Hotel EDEN im Park. The guided “Bienvenue à Rheinfelden-les-Bains” city tour takes you on a journey into the past with spa guest Louise de Sancerre.
The best way to round off a visit to Rheinfelden is in the Rheinfelden brine baths. Here, at the EDEN salt water bath or the “sole uno” wellness area, you can enjoy the healing power of salt on your skin, joints and muscles with an intensive saltwater bath or a salt scrub.
