Intro
Dashing through the snow-covered Bois du Bilioley forest on a sledge and enjoying the view of the Dents du Midi, the Mont Blanc massif, lake Geneva and the Rhone plain - that's what the Col de Soud-Villars sledge run is all about. The exciting route leads along the Col de Soud mountain range and ends in the village of Villars-sur-Ollon.
Description
Sun-kissed Villars-sur-Ollon is located in the heart of the Vaud alps. Situated on a terrace high above the Rhone valley, the view of the Dents du Midi mountain range and the Mont Blanc massif is captivating even in the centre of the village. The cogwheel railway connecting Villars with the Col de Bretaye takes you to the Col de Soud. The sledge run starts just a few metres from the middle station.
The 1.6 kilometre long descent offers a mixture of straight sections and steep curves at the finish. Initially, you ride closely along the edge of the forest, but a little later you enter the fairy-tale spruce forest Bois du Bilioley. The forest thins out every so often and the impressive mountain panorama appears between the branches. In the last section, a stop at the Cabane du Scex is worthwhile. The open log cabin is ideal for a picnic. On the terrace which provides tables and benches, you can enjoy the winter sun while the view sweeps from the peaks of the Dents du Midi across the Rhone plain to lake Geneva.
Back on the ski slope, you dash down the last few metres of altitude. The way back to Villars-sur-Ollon follows the winter hiking trail. If you haven't had enough yet, you can take the train for another descent in Rochegrises or end the day on one of the many sun terraces.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
