Description
The route sets off in an urban area from the Eaux-Vives railway station, one of the main stops of the Léman Express, a cross-border rail link that connects Cornavin station, Geneva's main train station, to Annemasse in nearby France. The itinerary carries on between luxurious country houses dwellings of the villages of Cologny and Collonges-Bellerive. In Cologny, the El Masr Castle - El Masr means «the Egyptian» - is a multicultural and neo-Tudor style castle. Currently inhabited, it cannot be visited; neither can the fortified house called «Château de Vésenaz» located in the center of Vésenaz.
After going through the villages of Vésenaz and Vandoeuvres, the route leads to the Geneva countryside. It runs next to the ruins of the Castle of Rouelbeau. This medieval site, restored in 2016 and updated with a lot of information, is worth visiting. A few kilometers later, the cycle tourist comes across the Fortified House Adda in Meinier (Corsinge) and in particular the Castle of Crest in Jussy. The latter, built in the 13th century and destroyed in the 16th century was rebuilt again in the early 17th century. Today, this castle is a renowned winery and agricultural sector. It is run by a foundation.
Through fields and fruit trees, the route winds through the picturesque villages of Presinge, Choulex, and Puplinge. From there, it goes back to the Geneva area and eventually returns to the starting point, the Eaux-Vives train station. You may travel the cycle route in both directions. The one described proceeds clockwise and is the usual direction of travel.
