Intro
The Toggenburg Sound Trail is a very special musical experience. This adventure trail stretches over multiple stages, from Alp Sellamatt to Iltios and as far as Oberdorf, combining all kinds of curiosities with the most beautiful landscapes. A thrilling route for curious nature lovers.
Description
This adventure trail was established by the “Klangwelt” association. The people behind this are avid musicians and craftspeople from Toggenburg. The region is characterised by an original culture of music and song that has always deeply connected people in Toggenburg. The Sound Trail offers a way into this living tradition and passion, making the world of sounds more accessible to the younger generation and visitors alike. There are numerous sound-making courses on offer, such as forging singing bowls and bells, as well as the alpine horn and yodelling for beginners and lots more besides. Some of these courses are held in the sound forge in Alt St-Johann, which combines a smithy for bells, an immersive experience, a sound experimentation room and a string couch, and all of this under one roof. Sounds are encountered not only indoors, but outdoors too, in the wonderful natural landscape of Toggenburg – on the Sound Trail, an adventure trail with 26 sound stations. Here too, groups, in particular families, can discover sounds and also make them themselves. The Sound Trail covers three stages and can be tackled in either direction:

Alp Sellamatt to Iltios
This unique tour begins on an easy path at the foot of the imposing Churfirsten range. Besides breathtaking views of the mountains and natural landscape, visitors to the trail will also discover various sound stations along the way. This stage of the Sound Trail is home to sound stations with a wide range of metallic tones and sound patterns.
The Sound Trail combines a relaxing day out in the mountains with a cultural project that has become very popular among visitors. But the natural landscape has plenty to offer too. Once you’ve had your fill of one station, you simply carry on along the route through shady patches of forest dotted with the occasional group of rocks or boulders.
Shortly afterwards, the route surprises visitors with a picturesque view of wild, open meadows and hills, always accompanied by the impressive mountains on the horizon. Of course, the sound sculptures are a constant invitation to visitors to relax for a while. Even after arriving at Iltios upper station, many visitors will leave this place with a lasting melody in their ear.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
