Thur Kanu
Overview
Intro
Canoeing on the pretty Thur into the powerful Rhine. Past fertile green forest, numerous gravel beaches, signs of beavers, picturesque vineyards and romantic villages with traditional timer-framed houses.
Description
Once regulated along the entire stretch, the Thur now flows in a lovingly renatured bed. The river winds between large shale banks in an idyllic landscape. Gentle rapids alternate with quieter stretches. The beautiful beaches are perfect spots take a break, swim or barbecue sausages over a fire. But please observe the nature reserve areas and do not enter them. Beavers love it here too. They have been successfully re-introduced and if you keep your eyes open, you’ll spot frequent signs of gnawing.
After a few kilometres, the Thur flows into the Rhine and the trip continues on the mighty river. You now paddle between forested shores sprinkled with picturesque vineyards. Quiet villages with traditional timber-framed houses make a romantic picture-postcard scene. On fine weekends, this stretch of the river is so popular that leisure and pleasure seekers splash about everywhere, both in and on the water.
