Intro
Not only railway passengers find the Zügen gorge awe-inspiring. In similar fashion to the railway line, the bike trails snake their way along the top of the gorge towards Wiesen and back, providing bikers with impressive views. The route is often open in early summer due to the mild climate.
Description
The road to Clavadel takes you to Heidboden and Junkerboden. On a dirt road, partly single trail, you reach Spina and the Walser village of Monstein. You should definitely plan a visit to Europe’s highest brewery there.
The route now leads towards the old silver mines, first on a wide forest path and then on a technically demanding trail to Jenisberg. The trail is partly exposed and you have to carry your bike there.On the hill above the Zügen Gorge, you circle Jenisberg in a loop. Shortly afterwards, there is a short descent to Davos Wiesen station. The Zügen Gorge was once used as an important trade connection between Davos and Filisur. The narrow gorge was crossed in carriages, where the Landwasser mountain stream makes its way between steep rock faces.
After the short descent, the steep climb to Davos Wiesen begins. High above the Zügen Gorge, you continue on the right side of the valley towards Davos. This single trail also runs partly through sloping terrain and is only suitable for the advanced. After a short descent, you reach Davos Glaris. You speed back to Davos here on side roads via the Lengmatta Frauenkirch.
