Customer Journey

The app is specifically focussing on the decision and planning phase. While MySwitzerland.com is focussing on the awareness of the Grand Tour itself, the app continues the customer journey, by giving the possiblity to plan the journey in a very simple and convenient way. In addition, the app is also supporting the guests during their stay, by providing navigation functionality and an Around Me (Discover) function to explore the surrounding. Last but not least: the app is a key element for the loyalty of the guests: by collecting objects and providing incentives, we want to push the grand tour guests to spend more time on the Grand Tour.

Horizontal and vertical information architecture

The information architecture is aligned with the customer journey. The tab navigation of the app reflects exactly the steps from the user journey: from the inspiration part (Grand Tour tab), to the planning (Planning tab), to the functionality which is necessary and relevant when being on the Grand Tour (Discover and Collect tab).

Based on your selection, you can dive deeper into the information architecture. E.g. when using the Around Me functionality (Discover tab), you'll get a detailed view what kind of touristic objects are nearby and you can filter them (like E-Charging stations, accommodations, Photo-Spots, etc.)

One source

The Grand Tour app tries to provide all relevant information which are necessary to plan and travel the Grand Tour within one single app. The idea is to provide a service app, that fulfills all needs for the Grand Tour guests, so that they never need to leave the context of the app. We started with the most important information, but this isn't limited to the current type of information. Because of the limited time since the launch of the app (Mai 2022), not all informations like restaurants or toilets could have been included. Implicit On-Boarding

We decided for an implicit On-Boarding, not for an explicit onboarding. If there is an On-Boarding to a functionality, it's always in the context of the function. E.g. when opening the app the first time, the Grand Tour tab shows an introduction to the Grand Tour sections. By showing an information to the user to scroll down, the behaviour of the app can be learned automatically. The same applies for the Collectibles: when guests are interested in collecting objects, they will be guided through the registration process and they will be linked - when viewing the tutorial - to the Discover (Map) view, where the objects can be collected. 

KISS with advanced options

Creating a journey should be as easy as possible (KISS = Keep it simple and stupid). Our guests only need to configure two options: how many days they want to spend on the Grand Tour and if they want to drive more (mode: 'Roadtrip') or explore more (mode: 'Adventurous'). Then the tour is being calculated and the app let the user know, which highlights are included and where to sleep. That's all, it's simple and easy! 

But if you need to configure the journey in an advanced way, the app also provides additional options: you can add/remove pre-selected highlights from your journey or select accommodations for the overnight stay.

Improved readability

The app is available in total 6 languages: English, German, French, Italian, Dutch and Spanish. The app is free of charge and don't contain any in-app purchases.

For a better readability, the app is available in Normal and Dark mode. Changing the settings of the zoom mode and/or text size is also respected and reflected within the app. The contrast is respecting the Accessibility specification WCAG 2.0

Fast access

With the "Active Journey" button, users return to the active journey at any time with one click and can be navigated directly to the next experience.
