A small, bustling town

Zofingen is different: It’s busy but never too hectic. Quiet but never boring. The beautiful old town is one of the most beautiful and best preserved in Switzerland. When strolling through the alleys, visitors are constantly amazed by their diversity: small courtyards invite you to linger, stylish boutiques offer an exciting shopping experience, and pleasant cafés offer the perfect refreshments.

Fabulous fountains

Zofingen is rightly known as a city of fountains: there are no fewer than 22 drinking fountains in the historical old town. In 1890 a well water system was built using wooden pipes that carried spring water to the city’s wells. Even if the pipes are no longer made of wood, the spring water still gushes from the beautifully decorated fountains.

The car-free old town of Bremgarten is surrounded by the river Reuss on three sides. This means that the water is never far away. The old town is characterised by winding streets and listed Gothic and baroque buildings. The Spittelturm is just one of the highlights that multi-faceted Bremgarten has to offer. Its astronomical clock with an elaborate dial shows the time, the sign of the zodiac and the day of the week on three circles.

Storytellers

If you’re interested in history, a guided tour of Bremgarten is a must. The choice ranges from stories from the time of the witch hunts to a tour of the “little Vatican”. The offering is diverse, with many different ways to immerse yourself in the background of this historical city.

Everyone knows Olten, but very few know about the old town, which is certainly worth seeing. You’ll see an old wooden bridge almost immediately upon emerging from the train station. This crosses the Aare and brings visitors right into the heart of the historical old town. A real jewel. Here in this pedestrianised precinct you can enjoy a pleasant stroll and stop for a bite to eat in one of the many cafés and restaurants.

All ears

Olten has provided fertile ground for literature. A number of well-known Swiss authors, such as Franz Hohler and Peter Bichsel, grew up here. On the Swiss Writer’s Trail, visitors can listen to amusing and entertaining stories read by the authors themselves.
