Rimpfischhorn (4,199m a.s.l.)
Hint
Intro
From every angle, the Rimpfischhorn presents a different side of itself: some parts glaciered, others steep and rocky. The peak is easily recognisable thanks to its distinctive shape.
Rimpfischhorn (4,199m a.s.l.) at a glance
Although the mountain cannot be seen from Zermatt or Saas-Fee, these are the starting points for climbing the Rimpfischhorn. This four-thousander is truly multifaceted: to the west and north, it is mainly covered over by a glacier, while a spectacular, 600-metre-long rock face rises up in the south and in the east. The mountain’s name comes from the mountain ridge, which can be seen from far away and looks a lot like the spine of a fish. It was first climbed by Melchior Anderegg in 1859. He was the first, but not the oldest, person to tame this mountain giant: Albert Siebenmorgen climbed it at the incredible age of 77!
