Intro
The panoramic view stretches across large parts of the Valais Haute Route: to the west, the Dents du Midi and Mont Blanc; to the south, the Grand Combin with the Val de Bagnes and Mauvoisin reservoir; to the east, the Weisshorn, Dent Blanche and Matterhorn; and northwards across the Rhone Valley to the Vaud and the Bernese Alps.
The ride on all the different cableways is an adventure by itself. It takes four cable cars from the village of Verbier to reach the summit: three of them depart from Siviez, accessible by bus from Haute-Nendaz.
The final 400m over the glacier to the 3,329m Mont Fort are also covered by a cable car from Col des Gentianes. A 20m stone stairway leads up to the peak itself with a summit cross and a clear view of the glacier and high mountains.
Particularly attractive are the notorious full-moon and sunrise trips to Mont Fort for early risers!
The cableways can be used for a round trip through Verbier and Nendaz; mountain bikers take on the “Tour du Mont Fort” (tdmf.ch) with long descents and spectacular passages. Altitude: 3329m
