Brennwald
Overview
Intro
Brennwald – «Burning Forest» – expect something hot. Take enough water with you, as you really won’t find it anywhere in the forest. But what it does have: clear views and fantastic a landscape which has once been used in a film.
Description
A gentle and enjoyable start towards Seelisberg leads past the Kreuzkappelle with its «Totentanz» plaque, a real rarity. As you come into the forest, the tarred road becomes a gravel track. Don’t forget drinks and snacks, there are no restaurants on this route but there are several very good BBQ points.
After a short and sharp ascent the «Schützen-12er» Hut is reached, a BBQ with covered eating area. Down past the «Oberschwand» Farm and up to Scheidegg, nobody can pass the cross and the fantastic view over Seelisberg, the lake and the Urner Alps. Don’t forget your swimming things, with a short diversion from the official route you can have a dip down in the lake.
On the way back to Emmetten we learn something special: In the '50s in this area the movie «Die Hohle Gasse» was filmed. Now it is a bike trail. Wonderful rock formations channel through the forest and back to the main trail leading to Emmetten.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
